"Something Special"

It was a special day in Cunningham's Corner as students brought and shared something dear to them.  Check out our "Something Special"gallery.

Word Work

This week students are learning to listen for what they hear first, next, and last as they review the short a vowel.  They have been doing an awesome job listening and recording the letters that match the sounds they hear.  This is a life long strategy so I hope you encourage them to do they same at home.

Rachel is modeling this week's strategy on the Smart board

The camera is no distraction for table 2.

Maddox is always camera ready but not before lining up his letters:)

Read to Self

Our morning begins with Independent reading.  Students are working on building their stamina during this time.  Legna, Caleb, and Aybars read for a full three minutes without moving from their spots, looking around the room, or talking to a friend. This is huge in first grade. They are on their way to a full fifteen minutes.  I know they will get there real soon!

Students are greeted for 5 minutes each morning by the Boosterthon team. "Turbo" Taylor is challenging students to play outside for 30 minutes a day and to get $3 in pledges for this cool beach ball.

Join the Fun!!

We are rocking and rolling with our first fundraiser of the year!  Our class has already met a goal of $30 and earned fifteen minutes of extra recess last week.  We have generated several more goals.  Our next goal which we are very close to meeting is for $50 and students want to have a Wig day.  Oh boy! Other incentives include popsicles and pajama day and a popcorn and movie party.  Please help us meet our goals by logging on to FUNRUN.COM and using your child's access code to enter your pledges. You can email your family and friends the link so that they can do the same. With your support, this program will be a HUGE success! Remember to come out and cheer for your child at the Fun Run this Thursday, Sept. 1 at 8:30 am!
Our Classroom Manners

Meet Emily Jones.  She is a recent graduate from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Speech Pathology.  We are so excited that she will be assisting us in our classroom this year.  She arrives daily full of enthusiasm and passion for working with children.  We love you Emily!!
