Let's Investigate

During a mini unit on physical changes of matter, students investigate ways to speed up the melting process of ice.  Salt was a popular choice but did not speed up the process as students predicted.

Chest Vest

We have been studying the respiratory and muscular system over the last few weeks.  We added parts of our respiratory system first and later added some smooth muscles to our chest vest.  Check us out!

Brand New Year!!!!!!!!!

It's a  NEW school year, a NEW class, and brand NEW grade!!!  I am so excited about my new journey into third grade.  Wow, third graders come with so much INDEPENDENCE!!!!  And they already know how to charm the socks off of each other.  We began our year with ways to fill each others buckets.  This is a program that allows students to build their self esteem by building the self esteem of others.  Students record ways they have been kind to one another through sharing, complimenting, helping, etc. and this allows them to earn a "warm fuzzie".  The fuzzies go into their individual class buckets.  This is an excellent way to build class community.  Ask your child more about it.

We Love Our Planet!

The last two weeks we have been busy studying plants which was a great tie in for Earth Day.  Students got to take their plants home today and they all looked AWESOME!  However, we did NOT stop there.  These little Botanists also studied one of Mother Nature's recyclers....WORMS!  Yikes, thank goodness for first graders because I did not have to touch one worm!!  We also had to celebrate a little so we made t-shirt posters, dirt pudding, and the most adorable craft.  We heart EARTH!!!!

Dr. Seuss and Watch Dog Dad

We ended our week before spring break with some Dr. Seuss fun.  Students created their own Dr. Seuss rhymes inspired by One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  They also experimented with oobleck after reading Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  It was a lot of fun but reading Dr. Seuss is a sure way to twist the tongue!

Thank you Mr. Loudermill, the father of Donovan, for helping out in our classroom!

The next "Bobby Fischer"

Okay, I am finally caught up (well sort of).  At least these pics are from March 1.  Yeah!!!!  My kiddos did an awesome job playing their first game of chess.  I only introduced the pawn during our first match and students look forward to learning about the rook next.  I already have a few kiddos that know how to play the game.  Brilliant!!!!!!

How To Blow a Bubble

We finished our series of  How To writing pieces with bubble gum. I asked students to tell me how to blow a bubble. Oh my!!!  Of course I had to let them practice first.  It was an interesting afternoon to mildly put it.  The kiddos did a great job!

What a Ball!!!!

I wish there was more space on this blog (free of charge) for me to post all of my pics.  Here are a few I could not resist.  The kiddos were such Kings and Queens at our third annual First Grade Ball.

100 Days Smarter!

Here are a few pics from our 100th day celebration.  My kiddos were sooo excited because they got to "retire" for one whole day.  We began our morning with a retirement breakfast (soft foods of course) and ended our day with a 100 day snack mix.  I want to thank Mrs. Thompson for being our 100th day Mystery Reader.  She read 100 Day Worries and then the students shared their very own collections of 100 things.
